Scrotal Ultrasound

Scrotal Ultrasound

Your doctor has ordered this test to assess the health of your testicles. This test uses sound waves to get pictures of the testicles and the area around your testicles.

To prepare for the test

  • No preparation is needed for this test unless otherwise specified by your doctor.

Day of the test

  • Please arrive 15 minutes before your appointment time unless you have been asked to arrive earlier.
  • When you arrive, you will be asked to fill out a form for your insurance and billing information.  Remember to bring a picture ID and your insurance card(s) with you.

During the test

  • The test will take about 30 minutes.
  • The technologist will ask you to undress from the waist down. You will be given a set of towels and a sheet to cover yourself and prepare for the test.
  • Warm gel will be placed on your testicles and the ultrasound transducer will be used to take pictures. It is a type of hand held wand that the technologist will slowly roll across the area.

After your test

  • Your ultrasound will be read by a specially trained radiologist, a doctor that specializes in radiology, and the results will be sent to your doctor.
