About Your Clinic Visit

Here is information about what to expect during your clinic visit.

  • During your clinic visit, there will be different members of the team that will take care of you. Members of your clinic health care team may include:
    • Doctors
    • Nurse Practitioner (NP)
    • Registered Nurse (RN)
    • Patient Care Associate (PCA)
    • Social Worker (SW)
    • Patient Care Resource Manager (PCRM)
    • Registered Dietitian (RD)
  • Your appointment will be at the The James Lung Cancer Clinic located on the second floor of the 300 West 10th Ave building. Please arrive 30 minutes before your appointment to allow time to register.
  • Bring your insurance card, advance directives (Health Care Power of Attorney/Living Will), health history and current treatment information.
  • Bring any medical information that has been requested, including copies of all x-rays, test results or reports that were done at your local hospital.
  • At times, you may experience a longer wait time for your appointment. It may be helpful to bring something to read or another form of quiet entertainment. Please plan for possible delays in getting back to work, for childcare or transportation.
  • Once the health care team is ready to see you, a Patient Care Assistant (PCA) will get you from the waiting area and take you to a clinic exam room.
  • Your height, weight and vital signs will be checked. You will need to take off your shoes each time your height and weight are checked.
  • A nurse will ask you questions about your health history and any problems or questions you may have. This information will be shared with your doctor or nurse practitioner.
  • If you had a CT scan or PET scan done at The James before your appointment, your doctor or nurse practitioner will review the scans and talk with you about the results.
  • After your appointment, a member of your health care team will review your discharge instructions with you. These instructions are known as the After Visit Summary (AVS). This paperwork will include all of your follow up appointments and other instructions.
